1.
You think you know me like the back of your hand Hold me accountable An upstanding citizen, a picture of health Manipulation isn’t cut and dry I didn’t ask for a piece of your mind Struck down to your knees Call yourself an honest man One day I’ll have you in the palm of my hand Manipulation isn’t cut and dry I didn’t ask for a piece of your mind

Sister 03:43
I get lightheaded when we’re alone Is it that painfully obvious? I feel weighted down Dragging this around Find a way through my skin But I won’t let you in Sister, you’ve gone sour You can’t be happy all the time I’m getting tongue-tied Splitting in two Feeling like the salt in your wounds I feel weighted down Dragging this around Find a way through my skin But I won’t let you in Sister, you’ve gone sour You can’t be happy all the time Tell me you don’t mind sticking by my side It’s never an easy ride I dreamt last night you died and came back to life Will we make it to daylight and the other side? Sister, you’ve gone sour You can’t be happy all the time Sister, you’ve gone sour You can’t be happy all the time You can’t be happy all the time
3.
Foolish 03:17
Foolish, foolish My head is miles away Foolish, you wish That I’d come back again Biting into apples Biting into worms You’re never gonna learn You’re never gonna learn The sun smiles on you, you burn You’re never gonna learn You’re never gonna learn I’m dazed Our head is miles away New things, higher heights Always taking bigger bites There is not a perfect life I am not your perfect wife Building castles in a row Apple trees that never grow I don’t think you wanna know I don’t think you wanna know Floating away, memory of a dream You’re not as starry-eyed as you seem Foolish, foolish My mind is miles away Foolish, you wish That I’d be back again In the night Feel the cold In your hands Another’s to hold Oh oh

Why do stars fall from the sky when I’m questioning your pride? With your hand in my back pocket Keep your hand in my back pocket When I’m on the wrong foot I know how to step aside With your hand in my back pocket Keep your hand in my back pocket You know I like to be alone Is that so much to ask? No matter what I do Always come back to you Why do stars fall from the sky when I’m questioning your pride? With your hand in my back pocket Keep your hand in my back pocket That’s not me, it’s something else Don’t take it the wrong way You don’t know what makes me tick It’s making, making you sick You know I like to be alone Is that so much to ask? No matter what I do Always come back to you You know I like to be alone Is that so much to ask? No matter what I do Always come back to you

Sour Lips 03:07
Sour lips are speaking but don’t make a sound Way to make your own cocoon Swallow up the ground Someone help me separate image from the mouth Will you swallow this whole? On your way to me Lie awake, eyes wide open We go back, to how it was Sour lips are speaking but don’t make a sound Get up, get out, throw your weight around Someone help me Get this outta my mouth It’s like some fucked up kind of dress It’s a red costume that you wear Will you swallow this whole? On your way to me Lie awake, eyes wide open We go back, to how it was Sour lips are speaking Get up! Get out! Throw your weight around Sour lips are speaking but don’t make a sound
6.
You don’t know what you’re talking about Big man with your head in the clouds Stand up and face it What you won’t admit You never asked for what you knew you wanted Careful what you say Now you’re at the bottom Dress for success, dress for success Settle for less / Make progress What’s that beating inside your chest? You can’t make sense of this anymore Drag your nails across your head You don’t want to exist anyway You never asked for what you knew you wanted Careful what you say Now you’re at the bottom Dress for success, dress for success Settle for less / Make progress I can’t abide it I know you’re lying You never asked for what you knew you wanted Careful what you say Now you’re at the bottom Dress for success, dress for success Settle for less / Make progress

Push it 03:43
I wake up on your lawn, sideways You hold up my hand up to the sun, I wave Moving through the waste to go on Push it, push it I feel so out of fire, these days You fold it up inside your heart Push it, push it Looking at your life, moving back in time Give this one more try, push it try again Spiraling, spiraling weighed down by the fruits of your time Spiraling out of the day, reaching for a distant sun Dreaming of your old gaze, day after day you fall Day after day / Push it, push it
8.
Comet 03:48
How do I warn you? You’re burning like a candle Dripping like melting butter, down your cheek Superhuman beauty is one of your strengths But it won’t save us I can see you up there, bending backwards all for me Comet coming, lightyears over you Comet coming, split the sky in two, over you How should I behave? When you won’t stop that crying Show me those pearly whites one more time Superhuman beauty is one of your strengths But it won’t save us I can see you up there, bending backwards all for me Comet coming, lightyears over you Comet coming, split the sky in two, over you Small fires lit in the shade Lights dance across your face In love with the end of days Comet

Tear it down 04:52
Carry that torch Far down to the sea Cool down the thought Wash away the feeling Wake up in the night, you’re living in a pocket Turn away, so self-disgusted Afraid to shout, I want to tear it down Do you feel like yourself, is there something better than this? Nest in the trees Dirty boysenberries Breathe the sweet smell All your idols burning I get so shy When people listen What more could I say that could make a difference? Smooth out the rough Holding out with no arms Afraid to shout, I want to tear it down Do you feel like yourself, is there something better than this? I felt so left out I felt so let down
10.
Greedy Mouth 04:21
I think it’s time you shut your greedy mouth I’ll pull the knots out Getting a feeling things are turning sour Pull the rot out On the surface of the sun Ripples growing as we run Casting shadows casting off All of the bad blood we’ve got The horizon behind you Moving slowly as the moon I think it’s time you shut your greedy mouth On the surface of the sun Ripples growing as we run Casting shadows casting off All of the bad blood we’ve got The horizon behind you Moving slowly as the moon Slowly as the moon / Slowly as the moon / Slowly as the moon / Slowly as the moon

Siren Song 02:57
I’m sick of waiting There’s too much to know So sick of waiting You don’t want to go Well everything fits But I’ve outgrown The skin I used to really know Feels like a hoax, over my flesh I’m sick of waiting up I’m sick of waiting I’m just waking up Disintegrating I’m sick of waiting up Oh siren song Send me to sleep I can’t keep a constant feeling Feels like a hoax, over my flesh and I’m sick of waiting, I’m just waking up.

about

True to our love of working together, our self-titled new album is an independent Mermaidens release.

Long in the making since 2019, we've distilled all the best bits for you. The album is bold and adventurous, spanning big angular attitudes to slowly melting shoegaze across the length of the LP.

We hope you love it.
